MADISON, Wis. (CelebrityAccess) Longtime Madison, Wis., promoter Tag Evers has thrown his hat into the ring and is running to be the city’s next District 13 alder, with the election to take place today.
Evers, real name Martin Adrian Evers III, is running for office for the first time after promoting concerts in the market for decades. He is running for the Madison Common Cuncil seat representing a district that runs from the north edge of Lake Wingra to most of Monroe Street and the upper portion of South Park Street, according to Tone Madison. His opponent, David Hoffert is an employee of Epic Systems.
Evers, 62, founded his promotion company True Endeavors in 1992, mostly booking clubs shows. He co-promoted and competed with Frank Productions, now under the fold of Live Nation, until Frank Productions bought Evers’ company in 2012. Frank Productions merged with Majestic Live in 2017 to form FPC Live, and Live Nation bought a majority stake in that company last year.
Evers, 62m is not running on his background in music, according to Tone, but rather framing his campaign around issues facing the city like racial inequity, the need for affordable housing, and addressing climate change on a local level. Plus there’s stuff like a controversial effort of a local high school to build a new football stadium.
As for supporting music and arts in Madison, Evers told Tone: “I would meet with [city of Madison arts administrator] Karin Wolf and [Dane Arts director] Mark Fraire to see what’s at the top of their list of priorities. Similarly, I would convene a meeting of movers and shakers in our city’s music and arts scene to generate ideas for pragmatic improvements. There is a need for a performance space on Madison’s south side. There’s long been a need for affordable studio space for musicians and visual artists, and there’s talk now of using some of the old Oscar Mayer site for this purpose.”
