WALES (CelebrityAccess) Plans are in motion for a new arena to be built in Cardiff Bay in Wales as part of a mixed-use project with waterfront apartments, bars, cinema complex, and hotel.
The Cardiff City Council recently unveiled the 30-acre development that will include a 15,000-seat £100 million arena, according to Pan Stadia.
“These are our plans to continue to develop as a world-class visitor destination,” Cardiff council leader Huw Thomas said. “The opportunities for growth and to deliver a game-changing project are here. Cardiff is the fastest-growing city in the UK with the best quality of life in the country. We are an events capital with 22 million visitors every year.
“£2bn of regeneration has already been delivered in the Bay and this is the next half a billion project which we want to bring on stream.”
The arena site will begin with a new multi-story car park. The existing Red Dragon Centre overflow car park will eventually be demolished.
The council wanted an arena with a capacity between the 7,000-cap Motorpoint Arena and the 74,000-cap Principality Stadium.
“We want to re-energise Cardiff Bay boosting its profile as a leisure-based destination,” Coun Russell Goodway said, according to More UK News. “This new development can help to reinvigorate the area.”
