LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — Another well-known London nightclub is facing closure after the venue’s owners revealed they need to raise £95,000 in the next two weeks to stay in business.
The Social, which has operated since 1999, has hosted performances by the likes of the Chemical Brothers, Beck, Edna O’Brien, Wolf Alice, Adele, Bon Iver, Aphex Twin, Florence and the Machine and Cold War Steve.
According to a crowdfunding campaign launched by the venue’s owners, its future is at risk due to rising rents, and an offer to the building’s owner from a wine and cocktail bar chain.
“Unless new investment is found in the next 2 weeks then the iconic venue will be forced to close its doors. We’re asking you for help,” the club’s owners said.
“We need to raise £95k asap as a down payment to get the venue off the market, save it from turning into just another bar and then kick start a second round of private investment so we can take full control of The Social lease and secure its long-term future,” the owners added.
So far, the crowdfunding campaign has raised just £12,256, or 13% of its funding goal with just 13 days remaining.
