LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Netflix has bought the rights to what is currently one of the biggest movies in the world, “Wandering Earth,” which has already amassed more than a half a billion dollars at the box office in China alone.
In other words, Neflix is going to broadcast a movie that matches the income of flicks like “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War”; it is already the second-largest grossing film in China’s history, according to BGR.
The announcement is important for several reasons, one being that it acclimates global audiences to Chinese major movies and another is that Netflix, which doesn’t stream in China, is pushing to appeal to Chinese audiences, BGR said. Meanwhile, Netflix is reportedly developing its first Chinese-language original TV series.
“Audiences from over 190 countries will soon meet The Wandering Earth on Netflix,” the film’s director, Frant Gwo, said in a statement. “I am glad that our movie can reach to people from different parts of the world. This is a Chinese movie created for the world, and it has been positively received since its premiere. We are very excited about it.”
