INDIO, Calif. (CelebrityAccess) Travis Scott has been sued by promotion company Empire Music Ventures for allegedly backing out of a performance at the Empire Polo Grounds, the site of the Coachella music festival in Indio, Calif., without notice, causing organizers to pull the plug on an entire festival.
Scott was scheduled to headline the 2019 Rhythm, Wine & Brews Experience this March 2 and, according to documents obtained by The Blast, was to be paid $400,000 for a 75 minute set with his management company, The Odd Group, receiving a $217,500 deposit., according to the lawsuit.
Empire Music Ventures claim they provided the deposit Dec. 3 and The Odd Group then canceled the performance without explanation with Empire releasing an announcement that same day that “Due to a last minute cancellation by our festival headliner, we have no other choice than to cancel the 2019 Rhythm, Wine & Brews Experience.”
Scott was not announced as the headliner at the time. In the lawsuit, in bold and underlined text, Empire says, “Defendants have stolen Plaintiff’s money,” according to The Blast, and that his management “refuse(s) to return the money … each of them have kept it, and wrongfully converted it to their own use. They have stolen 217,500.00.”
The Blast noted that the radius clause in the contract would preclude Scott from performing at Coachella because he could not “contract or advertise any other performance within a 120-mile radius for 90 days before or 30 days after March 2.”
