LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — For the fourth week in a row, Warner Bros. Aquaman swam to the top of the box office, earning an impressive $136.9M worldwide.
The superhero adventure added $51.5m in North American theaters and overseas, it generated an additional $85.4 million in 78 overseas markets. To date, the movie has cumed more than $748 million globally, according to estimates compiled by comScore.
Paramount’s Transformers spin-off Bumblebee took the #2 spot in worldwide box office, earning $66.2M, including $20.5M from North American theaters where it’s in its second week of general release.
New to theaters this week was Disney’s musical sequel Mary Poppins Returns, which earned $28m in North America and $56.9m worldwide. The film, which picks up the story 25 years after the original Mary Poppins (1964), includes Emily Blunt playing everyone’s favorite nanny. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Dick Van Dyke, Angela Lansbury, Colin Firth, and Meryl Streep all appear in supporting roles.
The film was directed by Rob Marshall, who is no stranger to successful musicals. His resume includes Chicago (2002) and the Emmy-winning 1999 television rendition of Annie.
