BOSTON (CelebrityAccess) The Boston Red Sox have submitted formal plans with the city of Boston to build a 5,000-capacity performing arts center behind the right-field bleachers of Fenway Park.
The Fenway Sports Group, the parent company of the baseball team, sent the formal letter to the Boston Planning & Development Agency yesterday, according to the Boston Globe. The proposed venue would be on a triangular piece of ground adjacent to the ballpark and would be a joint venture between Live Nation and the Red Sox.
The theater “would host a wide variety of entertainment and civic events on a year-round basis, enlivening the Lansdowne Street entertainment district on both Fenway Park event days and non-event days and providing a steady stream of patrons for the neighborhood’s many restaurants and retail establishments,” Fenway Sports Group Exec VP of Business Affairs Jonathan Gilula reportedly says in the letter.
Gilula added that the bleachers would be renovated with a new area connected with “concession stands, restrooms and other elements designed to enhance the fan experience in the bleachers.” Function spaces would be renovated with “sweeping views of Fenway Park.”
More plans are expected to be filed, including impact reports on traffic and the environment, followed by community meetings (which usually are attended by the NIMBYs), followed by a formal review by city officials.
