COLUMBUS, Ohio (CelebrityAccess) Major League Soccer team Columbus Crew has announced plans for a new stadium in downtown Columbus, Ohio.

The stadium, unveiled to a potential ownership group led by Cleveland Browns owners Dee and JHimmy Haslam, would be a $230 million, 20,000-capacity facility that would be part of a 33-acre site with a riverfront park and 885 new residences, according to Pan Stadia.

“This is the next step in what some may have thought was an impossible dream,” Columbus Partnership CEO Alex Fischer said. “This announcement showcases our community’s commitment, in partnership with the Haslam and Edwards Families, to MLS soccer in Columbus. The creativity behind this one-of-a-kind public-private partnership brings together a vision for a new stadium with a broader community development plan. Columbus will be the national standard-bearer of what defines collaborative relationships between professional sports teams and their communities. ”

The ownership would be investing $645 million into the entire project, according to Columbus Business First. The club’s current home, Mapfre Stadium, would be converted into a practice facility surrounded by a community sports park.
