TORONTO – The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) today (Nov. 28) announced broadcast legend Duff Roman will be awarded the 2019 Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award for his ongoing contributions and dedication to the Canadian music industry.
Lauded as a pioneer and trailblazer in the industry, Roman’s contributions to Canadian music span over 60 years. His entrepreneurial spirit has been instrumental in the development of Canadian radio, punctuated by notable accolades along the way. From his early days as a radio announcer, time with Roman Records, and long-standing career with CHUM-FM to his executive industry roles and co-founding of FACTOR, Roman has been a key figure in the development of countless Canadian artists including Little Caesar and The Consuls, Levon and the Hawks (who notably went on to become The Band, backing Bob Dylan), The Paupers, David Clayton-Thomas, and countless others.

The Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award recognizes individuals whose work has significantly impacted the growth and development of the Canadian music industry. The prestigious award is named after Walt Grealis, legendary Canadian publisher and music industry leader.
This year’s award will be presented to Roman at the 48th Annual JUNO Gala Dinner & Awards on Saturday, March 16 at the London Convention Centre in London, Ontario.
