BILBAO, Spain (CelebrityAccess) Camila Cabello was the big winner at the MTV EMAs (formerly known as the European Music Awards) tonight, winning best artist, while five-time nominee Ariana Grande was shut out.
Cabello won best artist, and best song and best video for “Havana, and best act.
Janet Jackson was honored with a lifetime achievement award and took a stand for women’s rights during her acceptance speech.
Nicki Minaj won for best hip-hop artist and best look. 5 Seconds of Summer got the best rock award, Marshmello won for best electronic artist, Cardi B got best new artist, Shawn Mendes won best live performer and Dua Lipa was best artist.
The audience “went wild” singing along to “Malamente” by Spanish artist Rosalia while Halsey delivered the most moving performance of the night during “Without Me” while chained inside a transparent cube that, when lifted, rained water down upon her, according to the Associated Press.
The MTV EMAs are held in a different European city every year with the winners picked by fans from across the continent.
