PARIS, France (VIP-NEWS) — France Gall, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1965 has passed away at the age of 70.
France Gall has passed away at the age of 70 after a short illness. France Gall rose to fame in France at the age of 16 when she launched her career with the song “Ne sois pas si bête”.
In 1965 she was approached by RTL in Luxembourg to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest. Ten songs were proposed for her to sing, with France selecting “Poupée de cire, poupée de son” to perform at the contest.
Over the course of her career, France released over 25 albums, by the end of the 1990s France decided to retire from the world of music and released her final studio album in 1997. In 2017 the singer had received L’ordre national du Mérite, the last of a string of awards and titles the singer received across the course of her career.
“Poupée de cire, poupée de son” has gone on to be remembered as one of the turning points of the Eurovision Song Contest, marking a transition to a more modern and relevant sound than had been heard at the contest before. The song itself will also be remembered for the double meanings of the lyrics of Serge Gainsbourg about the young performer.
