(CelebrityAccess) — Spotify took to social media on Thursday night to reveal that the streaming music giant had passed the 70 million subscriber mark.
Hello 70 million subscribers 👏
— Spotify (@Spotify) January 4, 2018
The new subscriber totals indicate that Spotify has added ten million new subscribers since August 2017 when they disclosed that they’d passed sixty million paid subscribers.
The new figures come just days after Spotify officially filed paperwork with U.S. regulators for an initial public offering of stock.
As well, the new subscriber totals appear to show Spotify pulling away from Apple Music, their primary rival in the streaming business. In September, Apple’s Jimmy Iovine revealed in an interview with Billboard that they had about 30 million subscribers, up from 27 million in June 2017.
