LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — Britain’s MOBO Awards announced that they will be going on a hiatus in 2018 in order to retool for “big changes.”

In a statement released on the awards show’s website, organizers touted the awards show was taking the year off while organizers “bring the platform to brand new heights and, most importantly, continue to amplify the exposure of the large pool of exceptional talent celebrated by MOBO.”

“We look forward to bringing you a much bigger, revamped show, announcing major partnerships as well as announcing a series of initiatives and events over the next 12 months in music, film, and entrepreneurship.”

The MOBO Awards, which stands for Music of Black Origin, was originally launched in 1996 by Kanya King and Andy Ruffell and has since become an annual fixture in the world of UK music.

Since its inception, the MOBOS have played a key role in the careers of numerous UK artists such as Stormzy, Craig David, Rita Ora, Ms Dynamite, and Krept.

Last year, the awards show returned to Leeds’ First Direct Arena and was broadcast on Viacom’s Channel 5. The show typically takes place in October or November but a date for 2018 had not been officially announced.
