NASHVILLE (CelebrityAccess) Women artists dominate the nominations of tonight’s Americana Music Association’s Honors and Awards show, with Jason Isbell one of the few males going head-to-head with them.
Isbell is the sole male nominee for album of the year, going up against Brandi Carlile, Mary Gauthier and Margo Price. He is also facing Carlile, Price and Lee Ann Womack for song of the year.
“I think it’s amazing to see the female support,” Price told the Associated Press. “There are so many organizations that are lacking in that area. Now they’ve started making award shows just for women, which I think is kind of like a Band-Aid.”
Carlile and Price are also nominated with Isbell and John Prine for artist of the year. Prine won the award last year.
“I am really honored, especially honored to be involved this year when the Americana Association has made such an effort to shine a light on such deserving pioneering women,” Carlile told the AP.
“I have no defense against talented women,” Isbell said. “I think they should win.
