SAN FRANCISCO, CA (CelebrityAccess) — Social media service Twitter announced on Thursday that they have permanently banned right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, and his show Infowars from Twitter and Periscope.
While Twitter did not specify just what earned Jones a ban, they said it was due to abusive behavior in addition to the account’s past violations. Their announcement cited the abusive behavior clause of their terms of service, which bars users from harassing, or inciting others to harass other users of the social media service.
The company said Jones won’t be able to create a new account or assume control of a current account. The company said in a tweet that it would continue to monitor reports about other accounts associated with Jones and Infowars and would take additional steps if necessary.
Prior to being banned, Jones had amassed more than 900,000 followers on the service with his heady stew of malformed conspiracy theories which include the idea that the 9/11 attacks against the World Trade Center and Pentagon, and the Sandy Hook School Shooting in Connecticut were staged by shadowy government figures.
Jones’s abrupt exit from the social media platform comes just a day after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey testified before Congress over concerns that Twitter’s enforcement of its rules and policies was biased against users with conservative views.
