SEATTLE (CelebrityAccess) – The owner of Seattle’s famed Showbox venue is suing the city for failure to follow proper protocols when approving the site for historical preservation.
According to the Seattle Times, building owner Roger Forbes filed the lawsuit last week in response to city council’s decision last month to fast-track an ordinance that temporarily includes the site in the Pike Place Market Historic District for a span of 10 months. Under the terms of the ordinance, which gives authority over structural or cosmetic changes to the building to the Pike Place Market Historical Commission, plans to construct a 442-unit apartment building on the site have come to a halt.
As such, Forbes’ lawsuit aims to invalidate and overturn the city’s decision. If he is not successful, he will seek approximately $40 million in damages.
