CANNES, France (CelebrityAccess) — In a moment of punk rock pique, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tossed his guitar in a pool after wrapping up his set at an event staged by Live Nation and Citi.
According to the New York Daily News, one of the crew was heard lamenting the rock star move, “Oh man, that’s a rental, It costs $5,000.”
Per the Daily News, Armstrong performed some of Green Day’s material, as well as covers by the Ramones and David Bowie on a stage built over the pool at the tony Villa Alang Alang.
During the show, Armstrong availed himself of the opportunity to verge into the world of politics, stating:
“It’s so important that we look out for each other and we show compassion for humanity and our neighbor. I don’t know who it is in France, but in California it’s called Mexico.”
He then laid into the President, adding in a stage whisper: “I f–king hate Donald Trump. It’s like acid gone wrong. LSD and the alt right, what the hell? I didn’t think this s–t was going to happen,” according to the Post.
The Post reported that the guitar was eventually saved, and offered as a tribute to Jennifer Breithaupt, global consumer marketing officer at Citi.
