LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Disney-Pixar appears to have knocked one out of the park this weekend after the animated “Incredibles 2” debuted to more than $230m in worldwide box office receipts.

“Incredibles 2” debut was the third biggest for a movie of any kind this year and a record-breaker for animated movies. The previous record was held by another Disney-Pixar sequel, “Finding Dory” which bowed to a paltry $134 million opening in 2016.

Domestically, “Incredibles 2” racked up 180.0M and $231.5M worldwide in just 26 territories.

Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter and Samuel L. Jackson reprised their roles in the first installment of the franchise, which debuted in 2004. Also returning for “Incredibles 2” was the creator and director of the franchise, Brad Bird, whose other credits include “Iron Giant” and “Ratatouille.”

Universal’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” continued its strong performance over the weekend as well, adding $173.6M worldwide. The figure is even more impressive in considering that the movie doesn’t open in North America until later this week.

Another Disney venture, “Avengers: Infinity War” crossed the $2bn threshold this weekend, adding just $8.4M worldwide.
