NEW YORK, NY (CelebrityAccess) – The 72nd annual Tony Awards celebrated the very best in Broadway Sunday evening.
The awards show, which took place at Radio City Music Hall, was co-hosted by Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles, who kicked things off with a quirky piano duet that poked fun at the fact that despite having made their Broadway debuts (Groban in 2016’s “Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812,” and Bareilles in 2017’s “Waitress”) neither of them has “ever won anything.”
Top moments of the evening included an impassioned speech from Andrew Garfield who won for his role as leading actor in the play “Angels in America, a rousing live performance of “My Hometown” from Bruce Springsteen who won for his sold-out Broadway show, “Springsteen on Broadway,” actor Robert DeNiro receiving a standing ovation for saying “Fuck Trump!” (twice – you can check that out below), composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and Broadway star, Chita Rivera receiving lifetime achievement awards, and an emotional performance by the drama students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who sang “Seasons of Love” from the Broadway musical “Rent.”
