NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Fyre Festival founder Billy McFarland has made a bid to avoid jail, requesting house arrest instead of prison time.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, attorneys for McFarland filed a sentencing memorandum in which he makes an argument as to why he doesn’t deserve a prison sentence.
McFarland attributes his misdeeds to his youth – he was only 24-years-old when he helmed the failed festival – and says that while his intentions were good, he bit off more than he could chew with the festival.
McFarland also laid some of the blame on an ADHD diagnosis, the symptoms of which he says were an impairing burden.
McFarland went on to express his deep remorse (we can only imagine) for the way the festival devolved, and to note that he has no criminal record. He further pointed to his cooperation with federal investigators in the case, the Blast reported.
McFarland, who was the founder and CEO of Fyre Media, came to the attention of the public last year when the inaugural edition of the tony Fyre Festival fell apart on its opening day, leaving festival goers stranded on a Caribbean island without adequate security, food and sanitary facilities.
McFarland faces Federal charges of wire fraud over alleged misrepresentations to investors and customers for the event and faces as much as twenty years in prison.
