TORONTO (CelebrityAccess) — We’ve seen a lot of concert cancellation stories over the years, but this was a new one for us- a Toronto concert by Liam Gallagher and Richard Ashcroft was canceled at the last minute due to dangerous levels of static.

According to the Canadian Press, Messrs Gallagher and Ashcroft were due to perform at the Sony Centre in Toronto on May 14th, but were forced to pull the plug on the show due to an electrical fault in the building.

Promoter Live Nation took to Twitter just before 7 PM to break the news to fans.

“Regrettably, due to electrical issues within the venue, tonight’s show with Liam Gallagher and Richard Ashcroft @SonyCentreTO, will be cancelled,” a Live Nation rep tweeted. “Tour and venue staff have been working to resolve these issues tirelessly to no avail. Refunds will be issued at point of purchase. [sic]”

The show was the pair’s only Canadian performance on their current North American tour, and will not be rescheduled, according to Live Nation.

Both Gallagher and Ashcroft took to social media as well after the cancellation to commiserate with fans about the no-go show.

“Gutted about tonight’s gig brothers n sisters. Safety comes first for all of us LG x [sic]” Gallagher wrote on Twitter.

Ashcroft expressed similar sentiments, telling fans “Devastated I can’t play tonight to all the fans that are here in Toronto. Sony Centre have technical problems & wont allow us to play!”

In a followup post to Instagram, Ashcroft noted the unusual conditions that canceled the show.

“Hey, this is a quick message to everyone who bought tickets tonight Sony Center, Toronto, to see me and Liam. Unfortunately the concert has been canceled due to static,” he told fans in the video. “I’ve never had a concert canceled for that…”
