YORKSHIRE, England (CelebrityAccess) Stuart Colman, 74, British record producer, died April 19.
Colman produced more than 100 acts, and recorded 33 hit singles in the UK including 15 that made the Top 20, according to the Independent, including NO. 1 hits “This Ole House” and “Green Door.” by Shakin’ Stevens. His biggest hit was the Comic Relief single “Living Doll” by Cliff Richard & The Young Ones in 1986.
Coleman, who was also a musician who played bass in the popular band Assorted Colours in the 1960s, and saw a presenter of several popular radio shows. He built his own studio in Kilburn in 1986 where he produced “Living Doll” as well as Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” by Mel Smith and Kim Wilde. He also produced Elvis Presley special “Love Me Tender” for Central Television in 1987 with acts Roger Daltrey, Ben E. King, Duane Eddy and the Pet Shop Boys.
In 1995, Coleman felt he was running out of challenges, according to the Independent and moved to Nashville, where he produced acts like Buddy Holly’s Crickets (in a barn on a working farm), Connie Francis and Linda Gail Lewis (Jerry Lee Lewis’s sister) as well as acts like Crystal Gayle and Nanci Griffith, all while playing bass on the recordings.
He moved back to England in 2002 and began writing for rock ‘n’ roll magazine Now Dig This.
