SASKATOON, Saskatchewan (CelebrityAccess) — Some of the top names in Canadian country music are coming together to stage a tribute concert for the victims of a tragic bus crash that killed 16 members of the Humboldt Broncos, a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League team.
According to the CBC, Juno winners Dallas Smith, Brett Kissel, Gord Bamford, Chad Brownlee, Jess Moskaluke and the Hunter Brothers have all signed on for the concert, which is scheduled for April 27th at Saskatoon’s SaskTel Centre.
As well, organizers for the event stated that a number of current and former members of the National Hockey League will be on hand for the event.
“Some are local NHL players, current and former, and some are flying in from the states and all across Canada,” Terri Sewell told The Canadian Press in a phone interview. Sewell works for Spark Creations and Bookings, which is co-owned by former Humboldt Bronco and NHL player Kelly Chase, and which is handling securing athletes for the event, the Canadian Press reported.
Troy Vollhoffer of Country Thunder, who is organizing the concert, told the CBC that all proceeds from the event will be donated to the families of the victims.
“If there is any light shining through this dark time, it has come in the form of love for one another. Our families and our entire organization has been blessed to feel this love from people from around the globe,” said Kevin Garinger, president of the Humboldt Broncos, in a statement.
“Our priority currently remains focused, as it has since day one, on working to support our Bronco families, especially now as they are celebrating the lives of their loved ones and supporting our players who are struggling to heal.”
The Humbolt Broncos suffered the fatal crash when their bus collided with a semi-truck in rural Saskatchewan, on their way to the team’s semi-final playoff game against the Nipawin Hawks.
A GoFundMe page set up to raise funds to aid the families of the victims raised a record-breaking $15.1 million before it closed.
