ANDOVER, Kan. (CelebrityAccess) The city of Andover, Kan., is preparing for the inaugural season of its Capitol Federal Amphitheatre, a $1.6 million project that will be home to the city’s summer concert series.
The amphitheater has a built-in sound system, loading spaces for multiple tour buses and will be flanked by LED video boards, according to The Wichita Eagle. It does not have fixed seats but is expected to hold 10,000 if they bring lawn chairs.
“Our intent is to host a myriad of other events,” Andover Mayor Ben Lawrence told the paper. “We’re hopeful to attract a symphony out here.
“It’s always been in the city park’s master plan, going back to when they first bought this park,” he said. “Then, it was a real small, scaled-down version that sat 600 people, a little bandshell. We kind of took that idea and enlarged it severely.”
The city secured a 10-year naming rights sponsorship with Topeka-based Capitol Federal Savings Bank in January, the Eagle said.
The shows kick off May 26 with Clay Walker with special guest John Anderson. That’s followed by Kenny Wayne ShepherdBand June 16. Also on the books are Terri Clark with special guest Little Texas July 21 and will wrap with a free concert yet to be determined, according to a press release provided to CelebrityAccess.
