LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Mitzi Shore, 87, the founder of the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, died this morning after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
“It is with great sadness and very heavy hearts that we report the passing of Mitzi Shore,” The Comedy Store tweeted. “Mitzi was an extraordinary woman and leader who identified, cultivated and celebrated comedy’s best performers. She helped change the face of comedy and leaves behind an indelible mark and legacy in the entertainment industry and stand-up community. We will all miss her dearly.”

The Comedy Store will be closed this evening, according to Pix 11 television news. Shore opened the club in 1972 with her husband and comedian Sammy Shore and comedy writer Rudy DeLuca, but Mitzi has always been the face of the club. Too many famed comedians got their starts at the venue, from Jerry Seinfeld to Jay Leno, to ever make a comprehensive list.
Comedian Pauly Shore is one of her four children.
