CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) The Takeover Jam, a highly promoted rap show in Chicago tonight, was canceled this afternoon (Thursday, March 29) because of security concerns.
The show, sponsored by radio station WGCI, was scheduled at the Chicago Theatre but the radio station and venue were advised by Chicago Police to cancel the event because of “specific safety and security concerns in the surrounding area,” according to CBS News.
Police confirmed to CBS there were safety concerns but would not give details.
Venue owner MSG Entertainment said in a statement to the Chicago Tribune, “We have been advised by Chicago law enforcement to cancel tonight’s WGCI Take Over Jam due to specific safety and security concerns for the surrounding area. As a result, we regret that the event has been canceled.”
The show was to feature YFN Lucci, Rich the Kid and Lil Baby (Blac Youngsta was the original headliner). The show title is based off of WGCI’s “The Chicago Morning Takeover with Kyle, Kendra G & Leon.”
Chicago Police were seen patrolling outside the venue as the Takeover Jam was being removed from the marquee, CBS said. The venue is promising full refunds.
