NASHVILLE (CelebrityAccess) Country music journalist Hazel Smith, 83, died at a Nashville hospital March 18, according to her granddaughter.

Smith, who had a popular column for Country Music magazine, is credited with coining the phrase “Outlaw Country” in the 70s and, in fact, worked out of Tompall Glaser’s studio with Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, among other artist. That’s where she came up with the moniker.

She was a publicist for Kinky Friedman, worked with Ricky Skaggs and Sharon White, and hosted the CMT series “Southern Fried Flicks” and “Hot Dish.”

She was also a songwriter, with her songs recorded by Tammy Wynette and Dr. Hook.
