STOCKHOLM, Sweden (CelebrityAccess) — The four members of the Swedish pop quartet ABBA – Agnetha Faltskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – have been knighted by the King of Sweden.

On Friday, Swedish monarch Carl XVI Gustaf officially inducted the members of ABBA as “Commander of the First Class” into the prestigious Order of the Vasa for “very outstanding efforts in Swedish and international music life.”

The Order of Vasa is one of several orders of Swedish knighthood and is given in recognition of personal efforts for Sweden or which advance Swedish interests. The Order, which has not been bequeathed in almost 50 years, was reactivated in 2022.

The orders were awarded to the members of ABBA during a ceremony at Sweden’s Royal Palace. King Carl XVI Gustaf presented each member with the jewel of the order in a red box while a diploma was given to them by Sweden’s Queen Silvia.

The members of ABBA were among candidates nominated for the honor by members of the public and government, with nominees approved by the King.
