(CelebrityAccess) — The veteran rock band Styx announced that Terry Gowan, brother of longtime lead vocalist Lawrence Gowan, has joined the band as their new bassist.

“It is within an honor and somewhere beyond a dream come true to be joining JY, Tommy, Chuck, Will, and my brother Lawrence – and to be reacquainted with decade long Gowan bandmate Todd — in taking on the mantle as the new bassist of the legendary STYX. Here’s to many years ahead on the Styx adventure!” Terry Gowan said.

“I’m very pleased and proud to have my brother, Terry, join Styx,” added Lawrence Gowan. “Terry played on four of my six solo Gowan albums. He’s on records that include some of the world’s most renowned musicians: Tony Levin, Jerry Marotta, Jon Anderson, and Alex Lifeson, as well as touring with Gowan from 1985 to 1990 and again 2010 to this year of 2024. It’s really great to have him aboard!”

Gowan steps into the hole in the band’s lineup left by longtime bassist Ricky Phillips who announced he was taking a break from Styx in March.

“My last 20+ years of touring and recording with my friends in STYX has come to an end. I am taking a break from the road. I’m not retiring, just taking a break. Presently, I have accepted an offer to co-produce a project in a studio close to home. I’ve known since I was a kid that live performance is in my blood so, in time I will post any future engagements or commitments. But for right now, Melissa and I will share coffee talk and meals from home…with our critters close by,” Phillips shared on Facebook in March.

News of Terry Gowan’s addition to the band comes as they are on the road for a series of shows in the Canadian Maritimes and Quebec. Additionally, Styx is teaming up with Foreigner and special guest John Waite for the “Renegades & Juke Box Heroes” co-headlining tour, with dates starting in June.
