NEW YORK CITY (CelebrityAccess) — Saint Vitus, a popular Brooklyn metal bar, was abruptly shut down by New York City officials on Friday for allegedly operating without permits.

According to New York ABC affiliate WABC, the club was closed by inspectors on Friday in the middle of a performance at the venue.

The inspectors reportedly found about 250 assembled in an illegal eating and drinking establishment, WBAC reported. As a result, officials issued a violation to the property owner for “operating the unpermitted place of assembly, contrary to the legal occupancy of the building.”

City officials stated that they have received numerous complaints regarding the bar, including one that alleged the venue was operating without permits WABC said. The New York Department of Buildings website shows a history of 25 complaints against the property, including one that is still open as of February 20.

Following the closure, multiple shows have been relocated, including the February 22nd show featuring Vomit Forth, Silenus, and Without Remorse, which will now take place at the Lucky 13 Saloon, and a show featuring Sumac, which moved to the Brooklyn night spot TV Eye.

A rep from the club did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
