CLEVELAND (CelebrityAccess) – The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (R&RHoF) Induction Ceremony is poised to make waves, featuring an impressive lineup of nominees announced by the R&RHoF Foundation. The list includes iconic artists such as Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. & Rakim, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Jane’s Addiction, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne, Sade, and A Tribe Called Quest.
Marking a significant moment, the ceremony will once again be streamed live on Disney+, with a special airing on ABC scheduled for a later date. The availability on Hulu the following day ensures that fans can catch every thrilling moment of the celebration. The 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, streamed live on Disney+ for the first time, garnered over 13 million viewers across linear and streaming platforms, emphasizing the growing importance of online accessibility.
To be eligible for nomination, artists or bands must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before the year of nomination. Notably, ten out of the 15 nominees are making their debut on the ballot, including Mariah Carey, Cher, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne, and Sade.
John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, highlighted the diversity and impact of the nominees, stating, “This remarkable list of Nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates. Continuing in the true spirit of Rock & Roll, these artists have created sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps.”
“I deeply appreciate the recognition from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (nominating) committee,” Mick Jones, who founded Foreigner in 1976 in New York, tells Billboard via email. “It is wonderful that Foreigner has maintained its presence all these years and brought the music to our fans. Getting this news is an incredible endorsement of what we have achieved over time.”
“I’m deeply honored to receive this news from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” Osbourne said in a statement on Saturday (February 10) after announcing the nominations. “To be one of the few musicians who’s being considered for a second entry, now as a solo artist, is something I could never have imagined. After 44 years as a solo artist, the fact that I can continue to record music and receive this recognition is something I am incredibly proud of.”
The nomination process involves sending nominee ballots to an international voting body comprising over 1,000 artists, historians, and music industry members. Various factors, including an artist’s musical impact, influence on others, career length, body of work, and innovation, are considered in the selection process. The inductees for the R&RHoF Class of 2024 will be announced in late April, with the induction ceremony set to take place in Cleveland this fall.
