TACOMA (CelebrityAccess) — Diane Schuur, the Grammy-winning jazz vocalist, announced that she’s canceling her upcoming appearances and stepping back from touring amid health issues.

“It is with a melancholy heart that I have decided to cancel my concert performances,” Schuur said, announcing her decision. “I never wish to disappoint an audience, and so I have reached the only conclusion that makes sense to me, a sad one nonetheless,” she added.

Schuur shared that she has been suffering from Ménière’s disease, which has increasingly been impacting her ability to perform. According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, Ménière’s affects the inner ear, leading to episodes of vertigo, tinnitus (ringing in the ear), a feeling of fullness or pressure in the ear, and fluctuating hearing loss. These episodes can vary in duration and severity and may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting.

The cause of the disease is not fully understood and at present, there is no cure for the progressive disorder, which can eventually lead to full hearing loss.

Schuur, who has been blind since birth due to retinopathy of prematurity, said that he doctor has advised to her to avoid flying, which can compound the symptoms of Ménière’s Disease/

According to Schuur, she plans to spend more time with her family.

“I’ve had a blessed career,” Schuur noted. “Even with all the ups and downs that follow most musicians, myself included, I’m grateful for every moment. It’s time for me to focus on my health, and find peace, with a slower existence. I’d like to write my memoir, and I’ve been contemplating a title: And Now I See.”
