BOSTON (CelebrityAccess) — Antibalas, the Brooklyn-based afrobeat band, has signed a worldwide booking deal with The Kurland Agency.
Founded in 1998 by saxophonist Martín Perna, the group drew early inspiration from artists such as Fela Kuti and refined their sound as a neighborhood dance/protest band at underground parties in pre-gentrified Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Since then, the group has gone on to become one of the world’s leading Afrobeat bands, and was featured off-Broadway in Bill T. Jones’s Fela!, a musical celebrating the life of Fela Kuti, continuing in the role when Fela! opened on Broadway at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.
The group’s most recent album came in 2020 with the release of “Fu Chronicles” by Daptone.
