NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Comedian Jon Stewart will return as the host of Comedy Central’s long-running late-night comedy show “The Daily Show” during the 2024 election campaign.

Stewart will host the show on Monday nights, starting on February 12th.

Stewart, who helped to turn the show into a cultural touchstone when he first began hosting the late night comedy talker in 1999, parted ways with the show in 2015. He stepped back from his new show on Apple, “The Problem With Jon Stewart,” last year after a 20-episode run.

“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” said Chris McCarthy, the president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, in a statement provided to the AP and other news outlets. “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

After Stewart’s exit in 2015, South African comedian Trevor Noah took over hosting duties until stepping down from the role in 2022. Since then, a rotating cast of comedians and contributors have been handling the hosting duties.

According to Variety, the show will still be hosted by Daily Show correspondents on the remaining week nights. The publication also reported that the Daily Show’s current executive producer Jen Flanz will continue in her current role.
