CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) John Mahoney, 77, known for his most recent role as the father of his sons Frasier and Niles on the TV show “Frasier,” died in Chicago Feb. 4 after a brief hospitalization.
Mahoney’s career spanned 30 years. He was nominated for two Emmys for his role on “Frasier,” won a Tony Award for “The House of Blue Leaves” in 1986 and was in movies like “Say Anything,” “Eight Men Out” and “Tin Men.” His last movie credit was in “Dan in Real Life,” starring Steve Carell, in 2007.
Mahoney was born in 1940 in Blackpool, England, during World War II when his pregnant mother evacuated to safety from the Nazis. He was preparing to begin rehearsals for “The Herd,” a Steppenwolf Theatre Company production, in Chicago at the time of his death.
