LONDON (CelebrityAccess) Thanks for clicking but the answer is: we don’t know. At least, not for sure.
The Spice Girls are clearly teasing a reunion of some kind, posting Instagram photos together, including with longtime manager Simon Fuller. Meanwhile, Paul Simon is having a “farewell” appearance at British Summer Time in Hyde Park this summer – which may or may not be the precursor for a farewell tour.
As for Simon, CelebrityAccess has been asking around but has not received any big scoops that a tour is happening, although one venue source said that people are definitely preparing for the possibility in conference discussions.
As for the Spice Girls, that has all the makings of a marketing ploy teasing … something. This summer is the 20th anniversary of the “Spice World” movie and, for whatever reason, the five performers got together at the home of Geri Halliwell and posted photos to Instagram. Magazines like People and E! noted that this is their first reunion since the London Olympics performance in 2012.
“Our dreams have come true: the Spice Girls have reunited!” gushed USA Today.
“Late, Late Show” and Grammys host James Corden was at a press conference on Friday (for his voice-acting in the movie “Peter Rabbit”) and fawned over the photos: “This is big news, it’s out there,” he said, adding that he would buy five rabbits and name them “Scary, Baby, Sporty, Posh and Ginger.”
More importantly was the second photo, one with Fuller front and center and Victoria Beckham’s comment “Love u all so much!!! X Such a great day!! Thank u Simon! X VB.”
This could portend anything from a brief appearance together to promote the movie for some kind of re-release to a tour spanning the globe. Whatever the case, Mel B has confirmed the Girls are reuniting to work on new projects, talking about “opportunities and ideas” but “nothing set in stone.”
“It’s the worst kept secret in showbiz always,” Mel B told BBC Radio 2. “It was lovely to get together, so we are talking about opportunities, ideas we have for the future… but you know, it’s early stages and there’s nothing set in stone, there is no big announcement.”
