TORONTO (CelebrityAccess) — Music Canada Live announced that countryman Paul Shaffer is returning as the host of the 3rd Annual Live Music Industry Awards.
Set for May 11th at the El Mocambo in downtown Toronto, the awards are part of the Canadian Music Week industry conference, which is now in its 36th year.
“Last year our second LMIA’s proved beyond a doubt that we have much to celebrate, by acknowledging lives’ incredible contributions to the industry. This year, we continue to shine a spotlight on this passionate and dedicated community – one that works tirelessly to put artists and fans together. This effort is at the heart of what Music Canada Live is about, and we are thrilled to co-present the third annual LMIA’s in 2018 with CMW on behalf of our members and Canada’s live music industry,” said Music Canada Live Executive Director Erin Benjamin.
Shaffer is best known for his long, late-night tenure as David Letterman’s musical director and partner in crime. He also did a five-year stint with the original band on Saturday Night Live, where he played keyboards, composed music and became a featured performer.
As well, among other numerous achievements, he has served as the served as musical director and producer for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony since its inception in 1986.
Shaffer got his start in the industry in 1972 when he served as musical director of a Toronto-based production of “Godspell.”
