MIAMI (CelebrityAccess) — Armando “Pitbull” Pérez and Florida International University announced a new naming rights deal that will see the the former FIU stadium recast as Pitbull Stadium.
The university did not provide details on the terms of the deal, beyond noting that the term was for ten years, but multiple media sources reported that the deal would see Pérez pay the university $1.2 million per year for five years.
Additionally, the deal will bring Pitbull to the campus for a variety of activity and events, including the creation of a song inspired by the school, along with social media and merch collaborations.
The school is close to home for the Miami-based rap icon and he attended high school just blocks from FIU’s campus and later went on to earn degrees from the university.
“This relationship will allow people who have yet to be exposed to FIU a chance to see what the university does in terms of research, in terms of education,” Athletic Director Scott Carr, who was instrumental in the deal told FIU reporter Alexandra Pecharich. “For anyone who had not before heard of FIU, this will give them a chance to imagine that this might be a school for them or their kids.”
