LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – Three months after postponing their Peace Out farewell tour, the iconic and legendary band known as Aerosmith has officially announced their retirement from touring due to frontman Steven Tyler’s ongoing vocal cord injury.

The boys in the band, Tyler, Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Brad Whitford and Tom Hamilton, shared the news in a social media post on Friday (August 2), explaining that the decision was “difficult, but necessary” because Tyler, at 76, has not been able to recover from his vocal injury fully. “Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other,” the statement read. “He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible.”

Aerosmith’s Peace Out farewell tour launched in September 2023 in Philadelphia to several favorable reviews. Despite the strong start, the tour abruptly ended when Tyler fractured his larynx during a New York performance. Tyler revealed his vocal injury, stating, “I’m heartbroken to say I have received strict doctor’s orders not to sing for the next thirty days. I sustained vocal cord damage during Saturday’s show that led to subsequent bleeding.” His injury postponed the remaining 2023 dates. The band had planned to resume the tour in 2024 with a 40-date run starting on September 20 in Pittsburgh and concluding on February 26, 2025, in Buffalo.

Aerosmith’s statement reflected on their journey and expressed gratitude to their fans: “It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning, and all of you are the reason we made rock’ n’ roll history.

“It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour, and at moments grand and private, you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives. We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing. Sadly, it is clear that a full recovery from Steven’s vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult but necessary decision—as a band of brothers—to retire from the touring stage.

“We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team, and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible. A final thank you to you—the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”

Fans who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will receive automatic refunds, while those who bought from third-party sites should contact the respective merchants.

Aerosmith, formed in 1970 by Tyler, Perry, and Hamilton, is the best-selling American Hard Rock band, selling over 150 million records globally, with over 75 million in the US.* They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (R&RHoF) in 2001.
