HELSINKI, Finland (CelebrityAccess) — Organizers for Finland’s Sideways Festival announced that the Sideways Festival, in its current form at least, will take its final bow in 2024 after a nine-year run.

Set for Helsinki’s Nordis from June 13-15, the 2024 edition of the festival features a lineup that includes Peggy Gou, Jungle, Bat For Lashes, Frankie Carter & The Rattlesnakes, L7, Ladytron, Fontaines D.C., and Ane Brun, among others.

In a statement shared on the event’s website, organizers attributed the cancellation of the event to the changing economic realities of the festival space.

Creating an ambitious festival with substantial content and services is rewarding but challenging. The general economic situation in recent years and the rise in cost levels have significantly impacted the possibilities to organize the event in its current form.

Additionally, long-term planning for the event has been complicated by various uncertainties, such as the massive Garden Arena that has been planned for years. Other development projects, such as the surrounding construction sites, and other events held in and around the ice hall have made long-term development of Sideways challenging. For example, typical multi-year lease agreements for the event area have not been possible for us, significantly complicating the planning of the festival’s continuity.

According to event organizers, they are focusing on delivering for fans on the final edition of the festival next month and will seek “customers’ wishes and thoughts about the future” of the fest.
