MANCHESTER, UK (CelebrityAccess) — British comedian Peter Kay has been announced as the inaugural act for Manchester’s Co-op Live when it officially opens its doors in April.
With a career that spans two decades, Kay will take the stage at Co-Op live on April 23rd.
“When you think of Manchester, it’s hard not to think of Peter Kay. He embodies what this city is about, and to have him headlining Co-op Live is tremendously exciting. We’re creating an arena that is truly part of the community around it, and having Peter as our opening act is a perfect reminder of that,” stated Co-Op Live Executive Director & General Manager Gary Roden.
The state-of-the art venue, which will be operated by Oak View Group, will be the largest indoor arena in the UK, with space for 23,500 standing fans.
In all, the arena anticipates hosting about 120 events a year, including about 100 concerts, with OVG’s Tim Lieweke telling the Manchester Evening News in June 2023 that the venue had been designed with music in mind.
Other artists announced for the arena’s inaugural season include Pearl Jam, Olivia Rodrigo, Take That, and Eric Clapton, and Arijat Singh, who will be the first South Asian artist to perform at the arena.
“One thing I absolutely guarantee you is it will be one of the three or four busiest arenas in the world on day one. Right off the bat,” he told the newspaper.
