LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — After seven seasons as a judge on the televised singing competition “American Idol” Katy Perry announced that she’s stepping away from the show.
Perry broke the news to fans during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” stating that the upcoming season, which begins on Sunday on ABC, will likely be her last.
“I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for ‘Idol,'” Perry said.
Perry joined the cast of “American Idol” alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie when ABC revived the brand in 2018.
According to Perry, her fellow judges were not aware of her plans to depart from the show.
“Well, they’ll find out tonight,” Perry told Kimmel during the segment. “I’ve been in the studio for awhile so they figured something is up.”
While she’s planning to step away now, Perry didn’t rule out a potential return to “American Idol” in the future.
“Maybe I’ll come back if they have me one day,” she added.
