TOKYO (CelebrityAccess) – The Tokyo Olympics organizing committee has today (Nov. 8) announced that opera star Plácido Domingo will not be performing at pre-Olympics cultural events in Japan come 2020, according to The Associated Press.
Domingo reportedly withdrew from the upcoming event scheduled for April, which was meant to combine opera and traditional Japanese Kabuki theater, citing the project’s “complexity” as reasoning. However, back in August, the AP released an in-depth report on extensive sexual harassment allegations against Domingo dating back decades. A number of U.S. opera houses canceled his appearances in the wake of the scandal, while Domingo himself resigned from the Los Angeles Opera, where he had served as longtime general director.
Domingo has since denied all allegations made against him calling them “deeply troubling” and “inaccurate.”
