(CelebrityAccess) — A French computer scientist has been sentenced to a month in prison for staging a denial of service attack against the online box office of French metal festival Hellfest.
According to French news site 20 Minutes, the man was found guilty of “fraudulent [work] in an automated data-processing system” after he knocked the festival’s ticket site offline in order to avoid a queue for tickets to the 2020 edition of the festival.
In addition to the brief jail sentence, the man faces financial penalties.
Despite the denial of service attack, all 55,000 3-day passes for Hellfest have officially sold out.
Hellfest 2020, which will be the 15th edition of the festival, is slated to take place from June 19-31 in the town of Clisson in Western France.
Headliners announced for 2020 have yet to be announced.
