NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — TMZ is reporting that when rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is released, he plans to forgo the witness protection program to try to resume his rap career.

Tekashi, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, just spent three days as testifying as a cooperating witness against the alleged members of the Nine Trey Bloods, a violent drug gang. While he realizes this might make him a target, he’s going to rely on round the clock security, which will be funded by his resurgent music career, sources close to the rapper told TMZ.

As TMZ noted, Tekashi believes he might be free from his current legal entanglements as early as next summer.

He was facing a minimum sentence of 47 years before he cut a deal with prosecutors to fully cooperate and provide testimony in the case.

Tekashi, along with several other alleged members of the gang, were charged in a wide-ranging federal racketeering case. In February, he pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy and eight other charges.
