(CelebrityAccess) — Award-winning music composer Jonathan Goldstein, his wife Hannah Marcinowicz and their infant daughter were killed after their small plane crashed in the Swiss Alps.

According to the BBC, Goldstein and his family were en route from Switzerland to Italy aboard their Piper PA-28 Arrow aircraft when it caught fire mid-air and crashed near the Italian border.

In a statement to the BBC, a family spokesperson said: “We are all devastated by the news of Jonathan, Hannah and Saskia’s deaths. We loved them all so very much. They were so happy together, and we will miss them terribly. We would ask the media to respect the family’s privacy at this extremely difficult time.”

Goldstein and his family left London on Saturday, and had made several stops, including Troyes, France and Lausanne, Switzerland, before the deadly crash, Swiss newspaper Le Matin reported.

Goldstein operated a company that made music for commercial television but also had a successful career in composing music for film and stage productions. He started his career at Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre.

Marcinowicz, a noted saxophonist, performed as a soloist at the BBC Proms in 2005, and went on to perform with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, among others, the BBC reported.

Swiss authorities have opened an investigation into the cause of the crash.
