DAYTON, OH (CelebrityAccess) — Comedian Dave Chappelle has signed on as the host of Gem City Shine, a benefit concert and community event organized by several community partners in the wake of a deadly mass shooting in Dayton’s Oregon District.
Scheduled for August 25th, the event will commemorate the lives of the victims killed in the horrific August 4th shooting that left nine people dead, while allowing local residents to begin to reclaim the community spaces.
During the event, local and national entertainment will be featured on the main stage located near Fifth Street and Wayne Avenue, with performances scheduled throughout the late afternoon and evening.
Event guests are encouraged to shop at Oregon District stores and dine at the many restaurants and pubs. Additional food vendors and beer trucks will be on hand to provide refreshments for purchase. Commemorative t-shirts will also be free with a minimum donation of $20, with proceeds benefiting the tragedy fund at the Dayton Foundation.
As of yet, no official lineup for the event has been announced. Admission will be free, but a ticket is required for admission. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan system.
Gem City Shine is organized and hosted by the Oregon District Business Association, the Downtown Dayton Partnership, the City of Dayton, the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, Dayton Police Department, the Dayton-Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau, The Dayton Foundation, Greater Dayton RTA, and numerous other partners and donors.
