LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – Mariah Carey took to Twitter Monday (July 29) – the same day Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, became the longest-running Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single of all-time – to officially pass the torch to the rapper and congratulate him for breaking her long-standing chart record.

“Sending love & congrats to @LilNasX on breaking one of the longest-running records in music history!” Carey tweeted, alongside an illustration of her literally passing the torch to Lil Nas X. “We’ve been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life!”

Lil Nas X immediately reposted Carey’s tweet on his Instagram, accompanied by the message “Legend” and a heart emoji.

“One Sweet Day,” Carey’s 1995 duet with Boyz II Men, held the record for the longest-running Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single for 22 years. It wasn’t until 2017 when Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s megahit “Despacito,” which featured Justin Bieber tied the track for 16 weeks at No. 1.

Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” has now officially clocked 17 weeks atop of the chart and counting.
