CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) – Def Jam and PUMA have joined forces to release a new sneaker collection in honor of the label’s 35th anniversary.
The Def Jam x PUMA Clyde Court collaboration, which will pre-launch in limited quantities at ComplexCon in Chicago on Sunday before becoming more widely available in stores and online starting August 28, kicks off a year-long partnership between the brands.
The debut shoe is set to feature the Def Jam logo on the heel, while the year 1984, which is the year the label was founded by Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin, will also be embroidered on the heel loop.
Commenting on the collab, Paul Rosenberg, Def Jam Recordings chairman and CEO said: “Since hip-hop’s early b-boy days, PUMA has been a staple in the culture — bringing freshness to the basketball court and style to the block party. We’re proud to celebrate Def Jam’s 35th anniversary in partnership with PUMA.”
Added Allison Giorgio, vp marketing at PUMA North America: “We’re thrilled to be collaborating with such an iconic brand. Def Jam is a legendary label in hip-hop and so much of what we do as a brand, particularly in basketball, is rooted in culture and music. Bringing together two brands with so much history and heritage just made a lot of sense.”
Additional styles are set to follow throughout 2019 and into 2020.
