STOCKHOLM (CelebrityAccess) – A Swedish prosecutor has asked Stockholm’s District Court to hold American rapper A$AP Rocky for an additional week in pre-trial detention to allow police to conclude their investigation of a June 30th altercation that took place in downtown Stockholm, according to The Associated Press.
Daniel Suneson reportedly said police “have worked intensively” with the preliminary investigation but need more time to complete their probe and are asking the court to hold Rocky (real name Rakim Mayers) until July 25th.
The rapper and his bodyguards were arrested July 2nd and ordered held for two weeks after videos published on social media, showed a person being violently thrown onto the ground by Rocky. The rapper, who also posted his own videos online in which he and his team can be heard telling the victim “no one wants to fight you” and asking him to “go that way” and leave them alone in the lead up to the event, is claiming self-defense.
In the days after the news of Rocky’s arrest broke, numerous high-profile artists came to his defense including A$AP Ferg, Post Malone, Miguel, Lil Yachty, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes and Tyga, setting off the movement #JusticeForRocky. A petition calling for his release has now garnered half a million signatures. Additionally, Adriano Espaillat, a New York Democrat in the House of Representatives, is also pushing for the release of the rapper, who was born in the Harlem borough of New York City.
